Why this film is so important
One film especially as powerful as Saving America's Horses - A Nation Betrayed, can reach the public like nothing else can and prompt people to stand up and pass the laws to stop the slaughter of American horses for human consumption and join the call for a moratorium or support legal action to stop the Bureau of Land Management from removing America's free roaming wild horses and burros from public lands and steriizing them and putting them in zoolike settings, or selling them for slaughter.
The film's executive producer, Katia Louise, describes, "Under our film label, Humanion Films, we have been working to stop the slaughter of American equines; both domestic and wild. We have traveled the country to do interviews and to document the issue of horse slaughter in order to produce the feature length documentary film, "Saving America's Horses, A Nation Betrayed".
"Our team of researchers, investigators, equine experts, and renowned advisory board members have made tremendous progress this year toward banning this barbaric cruelty, but our work is far from over.
"Members of the WFLF crew recently traveled to Reno, Nevada to film interviews and wild horses on location and to speak on behalf of the wild horses and burros at the December BLM Advisory Board Meeting. Sadly, it was later discovered that while we and other prominent horse advocates were speaking out for our equines at the meeting, the BLM was secretly rounding up more horses.
"Our American horses (race horses, pet horses, wild horses, show horses, burros...) are penned up right now in freezing weather in holding pens and on trailers all over the country, doomed to please the palate of wealthy diners abroad. Pro-slaughter proponents including the BLM also plan to remove thousands of wild horses from our public lands during the dead of winter 2009 and 2010.
"WFLF continues to work through the holidays to document these atrocities and stop the cruelty and we will not stop fighting for the protection of all equines from slaughter until they are safe."

Disappointment Valley. . . A Modern Day Western (In High Definition):
In his international award-winning documentary film Spirit Riders, director James Kleinert followed an American Indian Peace Movement begun by the Lakota Nation as they made their historical horse back ride to Wounded Knee. (www.spiritridersmovie.com). Spirit Riders shows how American Indians have reclaimed their sacred way of life thru re-connecting with the horse.
In Kleinert's latest documentary, Saving the American Wild Horse, a call-to-action short film hosted by Viggo Mortensen, Sheryl Crow, and Peter Coyote, the filmmaker examines the politics behind the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) controversial policies on public lands and questions the fate of America's wild horses and burros, whose very existence is in jeopardy (www.theamericanwildhorse.com).
Kleinert continues his work in a feature-length documentary film, Disappointment Valley. . . A Modern Day Western. This film examines the plight of America's wild horses and the rapidly deteriorating condition of our wild and beautiful Public Lands in the majestic haunting American West.
Through interviews with scientific experts, ranchers, historians, wild horse owners, animal rights activists, environmentalists, movie stars, uranium prospectors, and many other colorful characters, the filmmaker examines the origins and effects of the recent "Burns Bill" which gutted the Wild Free Roaming Horse and Burro Act of 1971 and cleared the way for the slaughter and removal of wild horses in America. Greed and corruption take center stage, exposing how the United States failed energy policy and the current rape and pillage of Western Public Lands by oil, gas, mining and corporate cattle grazing is leading to the extinction of America’s Wild Horses and Burro’s.
The film interviews such experts as Jim Baca former Director of the Bureau of Land Management under the Clinton Administration. Randy Udall energy consultant, Michael Blake (Writer of Dances With Wolves and Wild Horse Advocate), the Deputy Director of the Bureau of Land Management, Environmental Attorneys, Sheryl Crow, Viggo Mortensen and more. The film documents the struggle of an animal that has long symbolized freedom, individualism and unbridled passion in America. Documenting Wild Horses in their authentic, beautiful pure essence (filmed in HD) Disappointment Valley is a profound film that will awaken and touch all who view.
The majestic Band Stallion known as Traveler (named after Robert E. Lee’s Stallion) and his family located in beautiful Disappointment Valley Colorado. Traveler and his snow white mare known as Alfa live and thrive with their family until the Bureau of Land Management conducts a massive wild horse round up taking two thirds of the wild horse herd away, destroying the wild band’s family dynamic and genetic viability in this brutal round up and removal. Traveler is sent to Wild Horse prison, as is most of his family. We follow wild horse advocates as they work to get Traveler returned to his homeland before his is shipped to BLM Long Term Holding where he may face Euthanasia or worse being shipped to Mexico for brutal slaughter.
The untamed natural beauty of the last few remaining wild horses is a strong sign of hope for many people. Real life heroes take peaceful action to save this noble symbol of American freedom and raw beauty. Go behind the scenes as these heroes vigilantly work to get wild horses returned to their homelands and stop the cycle of abuse that continues to haunt America and the world. The wild horses plight is our own!
Disappointment Valley. . . A Modern Day Western is a film that is impressionable, haunting and makes people jump out of their sets to take action for positive change.
