URGENT: Tell Senators to Vote No on Barbaric Sterilization Amendment
Supporters, we need your immediate help! The Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee will act on the BLM’s Wild Horse & Burro Program budget this Tuesday morning at 9:30 am ET, and the full Senate Appropriations Committee will mark up the BLM’s Fiscal Year 2019 spending legislation this Thursday starting at 10:30 am ET. We have to light up the phone lines, and we have no time to lose!
The procedure proposed by Stewart's amendment to the appropriations bill, ovariectomy via colpotomy, is inhumane and cruel. Please watch our short video below, under two minutes long, to learn more about why this procedure is so barbaric. Please circulate it through your networks and send to lawmakers if you can.
Warning: this video contains graphic footage of a surgical procedure and is not suitable for young audiences.
Here's what we need you to do:
Call the 15 members of the Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee before Tuesday morning (June 12) and urge them to reject Stewart's amendment (more detailed instructions below).
- Please call/email your personal Senators and urge them to work with their colleagues on the Senate Appropriations Committee to reject any language allowing for barbaric sterilization procedures, the creation of same-sex/non-reproducing herds, killing, or "unlimited sale" of our wild horses and burros.
Contact the Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee
In your own words, urge them to do the following:
Do not pass any language that allows for the creation of same-sex/non-reproducing herds, barbaric sterilization, killing, or "unlimited sale" of our wild horses and burros
- Follow the principles of humane management outlined in the unified statement signed by TCF, AWHC, and more than 100 other welfare and advocacy organizations
- Place an emphasis on the use of PZP and other fertility control vaccines that have shown to be cost-effective and humane management tools for wild herds
