TAKE ACTION: Callaghan Complex Wild Horse & Burro Herd Management Area Plan (HMAP)

DEADLINE: APRIL 14, 2025
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Mount Lewis Field Office (MLFO) ia creating the Callaghan Complex Wild Horse and Burro Herd Management Area Plan (HMAP), which encompasses 4 Herd Management Areas (HMAs). The HMAP will guide future management of the Complex and the wild horses and burros within it.

The Callaghan Complex is comprised of the Bald Mountain, Callaghan, South Shoshone and Hickison (portion North of U.S. 50) Herd Management Areas. A 30-day public scoping period will begin on 03/14/2025 and will end on 04/14/2025.

An Evaluation Report (Report) has been prepared and is available for public review in the document section of this page. The Report documents key issues that would aid in alternative developments of the Callaghan Complex Herd Management Area Plan (HMAP).  Depending on funding and other competing priorities, the BLM intends to complete the process and adopt an HMAP for the Callaghan Complex within approximately one year.
