In the Ochoco National Forest of Central Oregon, there exists a small, isolated herd of wild horses. For as long as anyone can remember, these Big Summit horses have managed to survive on the rugged terrain through the harshest of winters and despite the encroachment of livestock into their territory.

The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) is now proposing to slowly erase this impressive herd - by reducing the population to such a low level that it would be a genetic death sentence. USFS wants to take the herd down to just 12 to 57 horses. This sadistic move will literally force wild horse families to inbreed. It is the very definition of "Managing to Extinction," pure and simple.

We cannot let this disaster happen. Please take a minute to raise your voice with ours to oppose this unjust and inhumane proposal.

If you prefer to draft and submit your own comments on this horrific plan, you can do so here: https://cara.ecosystem-management.org/Public/CommentInput?project=46228

Thank you for speaking up for these innocent horses, who want nothing more than to live their lives, wild and free.
