WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – The Black Rock Field Office has issued a Determination of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Adequacy (DNA) and associated Decision Record (DR) for the Buffalo Hills Herd Management Area (HMA.)
After a 30-day comment period, which concluded October 31, 2024, the DNA was completed to review the potential environmental impacts of the capture, treat and release gather and confirm that the proposed action is adequately analyzed in existing NEPA documents and is in conformance with the land use plan.
The DNA titled Buffalo Hills HMA Capture, Treat, and Release Wild Horse and Burro Gather, can be viewed on the BLM National NEPA Register.

(ORIGINAL CALL TO ACTION)
Oct. 29, 2024
The Bureau of Land Management is stepping up efforts to put the final nail in the coffin of our wild horses and burro herds. Sterilization of the herds will forever destroy them ... likely causing many to die off in the not-too-distant future. We know this sounds dire -- but the situation is literally at a point of no return .... that point is when our herds are permanently sterilized and non-viable.
We apologize for this last-minute alert. Thursday is the deadline to submit our opposition to the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM's) proposal to use the Gonacon sterilizing agent on all mares in the Buffalo Hills Herd Management Area just northwest of Gerlach, Nevada. Sadly, over the past four years, BLM has worked to cut the Buffalo Hills wild horse herd by 2/3s and began to wipe out the entire wild burro herd. They intend to finish the job of wiping out all the burros in their current proposal.
We know it's tough to fight the government machine which seems to have no guardrails -- especially when Congress is drinking the BLM Kool-Aid.
But we must work together to speak up against this ill-conceived proposal. We must NOT grow tired and give up. If we do, our grandchildren and great-grandchildren may never know wild horses or wild burros.
Please click the BLUE BUTTON below and take one minute to make your voice heard no later than October 31 at 4:30 pm PT.
Thank you for taking action -- without your action, change will not happen!
